BREESE, Ill. (AP) – A 75-year-old Illinois man who went missing more than seven years ago has been declared dead.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports 75-year-old Vincent Wesselman of Breese was last seen out walking in his hometown in April 2011.

His family didn’t realize he was missing until a few days later. His car and bicycle were still at his home and his good clothing for church had been laid out on his bed. But Wesselman never showed up for Holy Week services, which was highly unusual.

Authorities searched for Wesselman but their efforts were complicated by rain and flooding. A $10,000 reward was offered for information.

His body was never found and the case never solved.

Court records show Wesselman was declared dead in late July. A memorial Mass is planned next month
