Perry County officials are considering deeper financial cuts. The budget currently on display includes $1.3 million in cuts, which would force county officials to lay off employees, close the jail and limit services.

On Wednesday, the sheriff delivered layoff notices to 14 of his staff – 14 full time and seven part time. That’s nearly half of his department, leaving the office with 19 on staff.

A private consulting firm has recommended further reductions. Their proposal would allow the county to get through the year with a $17,000 revenue-to-expense gap.
