The Marion Wildcats, who are #5 in 5A in the latest AP State Poll, remain the unanimous #1 team in the Southern Illinois region after another dominant win in Week 2 of the football season, Benton also remained the #2 team and received more attention in this week’s Coaches’ Poll, gaining points after a 61-0 spanking of Sparta.
Murphysboro (#9 in 4A) jumped up from #5 to #3 after a 27-7 win over Anna-Jonesboro, pushing both Nashville and Fairfield from their #3 and #4 posts, respectively.
Cahokia took the biggest hit in the standings after a 21-6 loss to state-ranked Homewood Flossmoor, dropping from #6 to #9. Both Centralia and Carterville both moved up a spot in the rankings.
