PADUCAH, Ky. (WJPF) — A car, driven intentionally by a Mario woman into the Ohio River near Paducah, has been recovered from the water.

Workers had been looking for the car since early Monday morning. It was finally found Wednesday in about 40 feet of water.

Witnesses told police the woman’s car accelerated before driving through an opening in the flood wall. Police believe the woman was trying to commit suicide. She was able to swim back to the shore and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The search for this particular car was slowed down considerably, workers say, by other cars also found by divers in the water.
