POPE COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — A temporary agreement has been reached to provide ambulance service in Pope County.

The county’s longtime EMS provider, the Pope County Volunteer Ambulance Service, stopped operations due to a fight over tax dollars between the company and the Pope County Board of Commissioners. At a special meeting Monday night, the board voted to hire Lakeside EMS for emergency medical calls. The Rural Pope County Fire Protection District will assist.

This temporary agreement is expected to last up to 45 days.
