The U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge that connects Wickliffe, Kentucky, to Cairo, Illinois, will be closed until further notice.

An inspection was completed July 6 after a citizen reported noticing a change in the bridge deck. Engineers identified a failing section during that emergency inspection.

Engineers are working on a repair plan and contractors are expected to begin work as soon as possible.

Drivers are advised to detour using the I-24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah and Metropolis at the Kentucky-Illinois State Line.
