MARION — Trailing for the first time in the 75th Colt World Series, host Marion responded with six unanswered runs to knock off and knock out Youngstown (OH) 8-3, earning a spot in Tuesday night’s championship game.

For the second straight day, Marion jumped out to an early lead only to watch Youngstown rally. Marion built a 2-0 lead on RBI hits from Carterville’s Haiden Lange and Marion’s Abram Tarlton.

Youngstown responded with three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Marion tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Lange scored on a wild pitch.

Marion’s Hayden Harriss broke a 3-3 with a two-run, bases loaded single in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Atkison added another RBI single and two more runs came in via an error as Marion tallied five in the inning.

Atkison finished it off with his second scoreless inning of relief as Marion advances to the title game where they will face the winner of the Bronx (NY) or Southern Illinois. SI beat the Bronx 4-3 Monday night, setting up a decisive bracket matchup between the two teams Tuesday at 1:00.

First pitch for the championship game is set for 7:00.
