One of the three people accused in the death of Mt Vernon woman whose body was found badly burned in a trashcan in Carbondale has asked for a new court appointed attorney.

23-year-old Tiesha Anderson was expected to enter a plea during her appearance in court Thursday.

According to Anderson, her attorney, Thomas Mansfield, wasn’t keeping her updated on the progress of the case. She has also sent a letter questioning Mansfield’s competence to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Committee.

Mansfield says his former client’s claims have no basis in fact.

Jackson County Assistant State’s Attorney Casey Bloodworth agreed, adding that the move was nothing more than delay tactic.

The trial will now be delayed while a new attorney is appointed and gets familiar with the case.
