The Illinois Department of Public Health is gearing up for the anticipated approval of Covid-19 vaccines for younger children.

It’s expected the Pfizer vaccine will get the okay for kids ages 5 to 11 in the coming days. Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says they want to make sure families have several options available to them, including doctor’s offices, pharmacies and schools.

Once approved, Illinois is expected to receive 306,000 doses initially, with additional shots going to Chicago and federal partners in the state.
