Governor JB Pritzker is signing a new law to increase access to mental health care in Illinois.

Governor Pritzker says the law lets those who have been out of the profession for less than five years reactivate their state license, and makes it easier for advanced practice registered nurses to treat patients.

The law also creates a tax credit for qualified employers who hire people in recovery from a substance use disorder or mental illness.

The hope is to make care more readily available by strengthening the state’s mental health workforce.
