CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – The Carbondale Police Department says they’re one of five police departments in the state recently awarded grant money to fight retail theft,

The $362,000 dollars comes from the Illinois Attorney General Office’s Organized Retail Crime task force. The money will primarily be used to buy technology like cameras and license plate readers.

According to the attorney general’s office, organized crime rings are often behind what seems like low-level retail theft.
