ST. LOUIS – SIU’s Celia Pulido , was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This is the second consecutive week Pulido has been awarded Swimmer of the Week.

This past weekend at the Purdue Invitational Celia Pulido broke the school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.28 which led to the 400-medley relay group breaking the school record as well with a time of 3:40.50. On day two of the meet Pulido broke her own 100- yard backstroke record twice, the first time in the preliminary round with a time of 51.99 and then later that afternoon in the finals with a time of 51.82. Pulido now holds the school and MVC record in the 100 backstroke and earned an NCAA Championship invite.

This season Pulido has had top three finishes at each meet in individual events.

Celia and the Salukis will compete again on Jan. 5 in Tucson, Arizona against Arizona and Northern Arizona.
