The pedestrian struck by a vehicle Monday morning on Reed Station Road has died from her injuries.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 70-year-old Nancy Heil-Schaffner. She was hit just before 8 a.m. while crossing North Reed Station Road near Haney Road.

Deputies say a Carbondale police officer happened to be in the area and immediately began life-saving efforts. Heil-Schaffner was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where she later passed away.

The driver of the vehicle—a black 2021 Hyundai—has not yet been identified publicly.
