A suspect is in custody following a police chase Friday afternoon in southern Illinois.

The Illinois State Police says a suspect in an SUV fired shots at another vehicle along Illinois Route 13 near Lenzburg just before 4 o’clock. No one was injured.

Police say the driver refused to stop for officers and led them into Randolph County, where investigators say the suspect fired at several more vehicles before crashing in a farm field near South Burns Avenue in Sparta.

The driver, 33-year-old Drew Smading, was arrested and charged with armed violence, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated fleeing police. He remains in the St. Clair County Jail.
