TROY, Ill. (WJPF) – A man died over the weekend after being hit by a train in Troy.

The unhoused man was identified as 56 year old Lonnie Dickerson.

Police received the call of a person hit by a freight train around 10:15 pm April 11 in the area of West Mill Creek Road.

The train’s onboard video shows Dickerson lying on the tracks, possibly sleeping. When the train’s horn sounded he was seen trying to stand up, but was unable to get off the tracks in time. He was pronounced dead just after midnight.

Officers with Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded along with the Troy and Glen Carbon fire departments.

The case remains under investigation.
