Two men escaped injury in Massac County floodwaters Monday night.

According to police, a 29-year-old motorist and his passenger swam to safety after the driver became distracted and drove into the floodwaters.

Police said the driver bent over to pick something up. When he looked back onto the road, he was in the floodwaters.

Metropolis police have issued 12 tickets over the past 10 days to drivers who have driven around barricades.
