CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — After a partial video of the incident was posted on social media, Carbondale Police are releasing more information about the arrest last month of an Black teenager. Police say the short video clip doesn’t tell the full story.
On the afternoon of September 23, Carbondale Police says an officer responded to the Casey’s General Store on North Giant City Road after employees reported a person that had previously been banned from the convenience store was trespassing.
Carbondale Police say the officer tried to talk to the person, later identified as a teenager, but the teen wouldn’t talk to the officer.
The situation escalated and the teen was taken into custody by force and placed in the back of a police vehicle. The teen was eventually identified and released to the custody of a parent.
Carbondale Police say charges against the teen of trespassing, resisting a peace officer, and aggravated battery to a police officer are being reviewed by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
