HARRISBURG — The Hardin County Cougars outlasted a week full of postponements and schedule changes as well as the field to capture the Greater Egyptian Conference Tournament title with a 58-45 win over NCOE in the championship game.

The tournament, which is held at Southeastern Illinois College outside of Harrisburg, was condensed to two-day event with final four teams playing three games in roughly 32 hours.

Cougars senior Landon Fricker didn’t seem to mind, pouring in game high 25 points. Nate Massie, who had reached 1000 points and 500 career rebounds earlier in the tournament, added 14 in the championship game.

Javan Garrett hit six 3-pointers and paced NCOE with 23 points.

The win was Hardin County’s 12th straight to improve to 18-6. The Cougars have won 17 of 18 since a 1-5 start, and will face a tough non-conference test Wednesday at state-ranked Webber.

The Fighting Cardinals fall to 15-10. They will visit Webber Friday night.

Hardin County’s cheerleaders also won the Tournament Spirit Award.
