The Carbondale Fire Department responded to a structure fire Friday night at a three-story apartment building.

Crews were called out around 7:25 and found a fire burning outside a vacant lower-level apartment beneath a wooden stairway. Firefighters had the fire under control within minutes.

Two people were inside an apartment above the fire and were safely evacuated after being told to shelter in place.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
