ZEIGLER, Ill. (WJPF) – One person is dead and another injured after a house fire in Ziegler.

At approximately 5:14 a.m. April 16, the City of Zeigler Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to 1119 North Pine Street for a  report of an explosion with a fully involved structure fire.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fully involved residential structure fire, with two neighboring homes partially involved due to fire exposure. A Box Alarm was requested to bring additional resources to the scene.

The incident resulted in one fatality and a second victim was taken to the Herrin Hospital with burn injuries. The identity of the victim killed is not being released at this time, pending family notification.

One firefighter sustained injuries, was treated at a local hospital and released.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
