WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – A former Carterville School District faculty member has been indicted on nine counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Williamson County Sheriff, Jeff Diederich spoke during a news conference May 8, saying John Wakey was arrested in connection to allegations involving students more than 10 years ago.

Wakey was a faculty member during the time the allegations took place between 2013 and 2015.

Diederich said that four former students had now made statements on the record to Williamson County detectives, and that investigators have developed “solid and credible information” identifying a total of eight potential victims.

Wakey was taken into custody May 7 and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
