HARRISBURG, Ill. (WJPF) — Two people were arrested after a police chase in Saline County.

Harrisburg Police say the incident started at about 9:00 p.m. Monday when they got a call from Carmi Police advising them that they were investigating a recent attempted murder and the suspect, Tony Buckman, 24, of Carmi, had fled the scene and was believed to be travelling towards Harrisburg.

Harrisburg Police were given a description of Buckman’s vehicle and were waiting for him at the city limits. At about 9:50 p.m., officers pulled over Buckman near the intersection of Route 45 and Sloan Street, but Buckman took off and officers followed. During the chase, Harrisburg Police say Buckman aimed his vehicle towards police, trying to hit them.

The vehicle chase ended when Buckman crashed into a brick wall. Buckman ran on foot, but was caught shortly thereafter. A 17-year-old in the vehicle was also arrested. Police say the teen was armed with a handgun. At the time of his arrest, Tony Buckman had 44 grams of meth in his possession.

Buckman was charged with possession of methamphetamine, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and eluding a police officer.
