The Blue Christmas Tree is BACK in Herrin, IL!

A long-standing Herrin, IL tradition is making it's return this Christmas season!  The big, beautiful, blue Christmas tree will be up and shining bright for everyone to enjoy once again!  You'll see it as you enter Herrin from the south on Rt. 148 right before Casey's.  The folks at Farmer's State Bank in Herrin, and Skaggs Holiday Lighting are making this possible for everyone in Southern Illinois to enjoy!  I had a chance to talk with Quinn Laird from Farmer's State Bank about what went in to bringing this Herrin holiday tradition back to life!

"Sarge" found his way back home... 4 YEARS LATER!

WOW!  What a good news story!

"Sarge" is a yellow lab from a farm just north of Nashville, TN!  Somehow, someway, he got lost from the farm all the way back in 2019!  His family even had a funeral service for him so they could say their goodbye's.  Fast-forward 4 years later, when just the other day, Dusty Ray's teenage daughter, Saylor, was driving around Herrin, IL, and found a lost yellow lab!  And wouldn't you know it, it was SARGE!  I had my friend Dusty on the #KiTC Morning Show to talk about getting "Sarge" back home to his family in Tennesse!

"Hunters for the Hungry" -- Helping Our Local Food Pantries

Hey deer hunters!  Would you like to donate your deer to our local food pantries?  "Hunters for the Hungry" is a project that could help you do just that!  I had a chance to talk with project organizers Dawn Null, and Tony Kay Wright, on today's #KiTC Morning Show!  Once you get your deer, contact one of the participating processors.  They will process your deer and donate the ground venison to the Southern Illinois Food Pantry Network!  Each processed deer can yield 40-50 pounds of high quality, lean protein.  Not a deer hunter?  Would you consider a donation to the cause?  CLICK HERE if you'd like to make a monetary donation.  Last year, they were able to bring in just over 1,000 pounds of meat for our local food pantries.  Here is the list of participating processors...

Triple C Meats -- Anna

Shirley Farms Meat Processing -- DeSoto

Sanchez Meat Processing -- DuQuoin

R & M Meat Processing -- Ellis Grove

Birkner's Processing -- McLeansboro

Web's Meat Processing -- West Frankfort
