FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — A Memphis man is dead after a single vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Franklin County.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in a construction zone at milepost 63.

Illinois State Police say the 75-year-old driver of a FedEx tractor trailer was travelling northbound when the passenger steer tire dropped into a foot-deep shoulder cut-out. The truck travelled through the entire 200 feet of the cut-out. When it hit the end, the truck left pavement, travelled down a ravine, rolled over, and hit a tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
