CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — A Carbondale man has been sentenced to 24 years behind bars on an armed robbery charge.

LaShawn Russell, 50, pleaded guilty to the December 2020 robbery at Plaza Liquor and Tobacco in Carbondale. Prosecutors say Russell pointed a handgun at the clerk before stealing $960.

Russell was arrested shortly afterward at a hotel. The handgun and stolen money were found in his possession.
