CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — Carbondale Police are investigating a weekend shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

At about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, officers on patrol heard gunshots in the 600 block of South Illinois Avenue. Moments later, a vehicle sped past the officers heading towards Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

Police met with the occupants of the vehicle at the hospital. One occupant received a non-life threatening gunshot wound. They were treated and released.

The occupants of the vehicle told police they didn’t know who was shooting at them. But police say their investigation points toward two groups of people exchanging gunfire.
