BENTON, Ill. (WJPF) – Legislation with the goal of hiring more correctional officers at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center has passed the Illinois House.

The bill, sponsored by State Representative Dave Severin, allows officials at the Benton facility to hire correctional officers without a Bachelor’s Degree. Applicants would still need an Associate’s Degree with 60 credit hours. Severn says correctional officers already receive sufficient on-the-job training.

The bill received bipartisan support in the House and now moves to the Senate.
