Mount Vernon, IL. (WJPF) – A teen is facing multiple charges after fleeing police with a loaded firearm in Mount Vernon.

Officers responded around 9:30 pm Saturday night in the area of 19th and Conger, to a report of shots fired from a male in a blue Dodge Avenger.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop, but as the vehicle stopped, the suspect fled into a wooded area around 13th and Jones.

After a search, officers located the suspect, a 16 year old with a loaded firearm.

At the time of the arrest the teen was wanted on a Jefferson County warrant for Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Armed Violence.

He has also been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Armed Violence and Felony Resisting arrest.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment and transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility.
