ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois guard Xavier Johnson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor marks the second time this season he has earned Player of the Week honors and the third time earning weekly honors from the MVC.

Johnson picked up his fifth 30-point game of the season Saturday afternoon as he helped the Salukis to a 62-50 win over UIC. The graduate guard went for 31 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the win, including scoring the final 14 points to close out the Flames.

The Germantown, Md., product connected on a trio of 3-pointers and went 8-for-9 from the charity stripe.
