CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – The city of Carbondale has received a $200,000 grant to expand around Cedar Lake.

The grant awarded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be used to build a natural-surface, multi-user trail around the lake.

The grant is projected to fund 7 miles of the trail, which will stretch from the City’s boat launch on Cedar Creek Road to Cove Hollow, and wrap around the north end of the lake.

The project is expected to begin as early as this fall.
