ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Another small earthquake has been detected in southern Illinois.

The 2.1 magnitude quake hit at 2:52 am Monday near the Alexander-Union County Line. No damage was reported.

Monday morning’s quake is thought to be the 8th small earth tremor this week. The region sits on the intersection of three seismic zones: New Madrid, Wabash Valley, and St. Genevieve.

Earthquakes less than a 3 on the Richter scale are usually not able to be felt by humans.
