I tell ya' what, in my ongoing quest to Broadcast The Good, I feel like this "Rise Up" Remix thing might be a Friday tradition! It's so good to hear everyone from Southern Illinois calling in to the #KiTC Morning Show, with a simple declaration... "We will rise above it"! I believe that! And, I know you do to! It's our Campaign for Kindness! Today, we send a salute to Val Hodges in Harrisburg. Here's the letter we received about Val, and the work she's doing to keep school kids fed with nutritious food!
We send out 13,000 meals every week. Every bag has 5 breakfast items & 5 lunch items.
It's a team of us that do it every week. On Fridays, a team of 25 meet and fill the shelf-stable bags. On Mondays, another team goes to 9 sites to deliver. On the days in between, Val and the cooks work to get the fresh vegetables ready and the frozen items bagged up.

The Herrin House of Hope has seen a dramatic increase in the amount of meals served each week due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Last week, it was an approximate 400% increase in meals served to members of the Southern Illinois community. If you can help out in any way, financially, or even with volunteering if you are healthy, you can find out how to do that at the Herrin House of Hope website! Located on S. 14th Street, the Herrin House of Hope serves meals Monday through Saturday from 11AM to 1PM! In case you missed it, I was able to speak with Pastor Troy Benitone with Community of Faith Church. He helps organize the incredible volunteer effort that takes place there every day!
